Chemistry

Dynamic bonds, including hydrogen bonds, coordinate bonds, and covalent bonds, that can form and break reversibly, empower chemists to assemble small organic molecular building blocks into complex networks in an ordered way. That being said, a crystalline phase can be achieved, allowing for predictable structures and properties.

Materials

Three types of crystalline organic framework materials have been discovered over the past three decades using dynamic bond chemistry. According to the nature of the bond that holds the organic units together, they are referred to as HOF, MOF, and COF. The rich library of organic linkers promises an unlimited number of materials to be produced. These materials feature large surface areas and accessible pores that set the foundations for their broad applications across many fields.

Applications

Crystalline organic framework materials hold promise for developing efficient catalysts for clean energy technologies like hydrogen production or CO2 conversion into fuels. Their high surface area and tunable pore structure make them ideal candidates for installing the required functionalities towards the target application. We aim to use our research to build a greener society.
